Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority
Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA) has made significant investments over the past few years in its IT infrastructure to increase operational knowledge, vehicle tracking, and overall efficiency of the organization. Furthermore, EMTA is a major resource during emergency events, such as man-made and natural disasters. EMTA has the vehicles, professional drivers, and systems to assist with large-scale evacuations and to provide shelter-in-place facilities as rest and recovery stations for first responders. In order for EMTA to ensure that these critical systems are available during a disaster and in order for EMTA to assist with emergency recovery and evacuation efforts, EMTA engaged Delta to develop an all-hazards Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) to ensure that critical business functions continue during an emergency.
Delta assisted EMTA through a Business Impact Analysis (BIA). The BIA identified critical business functions to be accomplished regardless of the emergency and identified how long EMTA could perform these functions without its IT systems. Then, Delta performed an IT site survey and conducted a gap analysis. The gap analysis compared EMTA’s desired state of readiness to its actual state. From the gap analysis, mitigation recommendations were provided. Delta worked with EMTA to develop disaster recovery plans that cover activation, recovery, and business continuity phases.
